Professor Mamoru Shibata MD, PhD

Mamoru Shibata is an Assistant Professor at Department of Neurology, Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from Keio University School of Medicine in 1992. He obtained his PhD degree from Keio University Graduate School of Medicine in 2000. When he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School under the supervision of Prof. Junying Yuan (2002-2005), he worked on the role of autophagy in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disease. Since 2015, he has been serving as a Trustee of International Headache Society.

He is also involved in various activities with the Japanese Headache Society. His recent research interests include the biological and structural changes of trigeminal ganglion neurons under inflammation, functional interactions between TRP channels, and cortical spreading depression biology.
